Anotomical Model of a Horses Leg in the Manner of Dr Auzoux with Ebonised Turned Base

£0

For sale, an anatomical model of a horse’s leg in the manner of Dr Auzoux, with turned and ebonised base.

Due to the lack of real subjects in the nineteenth century the Frenchman Dr Auzoux began to design plaster models as teaching aids for medical students.

From the 1820’s, these models achieved widespread approval and were even exhibited in The Great Exhibition of 1851.

This is a quality example likely to have been manufactured by one of his numerous competitors owing to the lack of the Auzoux mark.
