Late Victorian Conservatory or Lounge Reclining Chair with Adjustable Footrest
For sale, a late Victorian conservatory or lounge reclining chair with adjustable footrest.
The chair is of beech construction with caned seat and backrest. An unusual chair with integral brass ratchet mechanisms for reclining the backrest. The footrest has an unusual iron ratchet mechanism that hooks onto the chair when required.
I can find no record of this chair in contemporary references but it also has iron fitments to the base which would suggest that it was capable of being bolted to some kind of carriage or alternative method of conveying its owner. The arms have been sympathetically re-upholstered in tartan fabric and additional cushions could be provided at a small additional cost.
