For sale, a magnificent Regency Period bow fronted chest of drawers. The chest has four long draws surmounted by two short, each with beautiful kingwood cross-banding and finished with brass commemorative drawer handles relating to Lord Horatio Nelson and the battle of Trafalgar.

The inscription reads, “Trafalgar, Sacred to Nelson” and is surrounded by anchors, cannon and flag motifs. The tomb and pyramid of course relates to Lord Nelson untimely demise but is also a reference to his other great naval victory at the battle of the Nile (or Aboukir bay) in August 1798.

This is without doubt, the best Regency bow front I have seen and is somewhat larger than most examples that you see on the market. It is typical of the period where Nelson’s death encouraged a number of enterprising furniture manufacturers to create commemorative pieces. Morgan and Sanders were the most enterprising of them and the term “Trafalgar chair” is still a commonly used in today’s market.

The measurements are:

Length: 105cms

Height: 120cms

Depth: 55cms
