Silver Plated Lemon Juicer by Gieves of London with Patent Registration for 1900
A silver plated lemon juicer by Gieves Ltd of London with patent registration marks for 1900.
This beautiful and unusual citrus juicer conjures visions of the Art Deco period and its cocktail culture but surprisingly this original design dates to the final year of Queen Victoria’s reign. It seems to have endured with later Bakelite examples existing under the name of the “Ex Squeeze it Juicer”, one of which is held at the Museum of Design in Plastics (MODIP).
This example was manufactured by Gieves Ltd who had premises on Old Bond Street and bears their stamp alongside the Patent design number 362187 and markings for A1 grade Electroplate (EP).
A rare and wonderfully preserved example.
